The dominant role of the bourgeoisie in the revolutionary events in the 18th century France has been recently doubted by some historians who raised the problem of the bourgeois myth. This social category made an important afford to maintain its position after the French Revolution using its economic and political influence. However it didn’t manage to establish its social identity probably because of the fact that its representatives were intentionally trying to disguise their real purposes. Nevertheless, they retained political and financial instruments at the time of the Republic of the Centre, the regime which was set up by the Directory.
