The temptation by Leo Tolstoy, or an example of one paradoxical story of the 1812 war (on the book by S.N. Iskjul’)

Zemtzov Vladimir

In a review of a book of S. N. Iskjul’ "War and peace in Russia 1812" it’s underlined the limited source base (the author hasn’t used not only any new source, but even the well-known Russian and French publications of documents); the author’s ignorance of the works of Russian and foreign historians of the last hundred years; the archaic style of the presentation of the historical text; the enormous and utterly unnecessarily quotations of already published documents and, in general, the lack of clarity in the plan and the results of this study.
