The Babeuf plot in French society`s opinion of the of XVIII century

   The article discusses public reaction on Babeuf allies' propaganda and their disclosure in spring 1796. Research is built around the data retrieved from the reports of government agents, newspaper articles, as well as reports and pleas of common French citizens. The article concludes that society was well aware of the plot, however was not able to objectively evaluate its scale and goals. It also appears that this partially resulted from Babeuf's own actions.
