Nicolay Bouïdiï on the European diplomatic activity on Bosporus in the mid-18th c.

   The author of the article analysis an unknown archive document A Short Description of Deeds and of Special Characteristics of European Ministers, Residing in Constantinople, written in 1752 by Nicolay Bouïdiï, the interpreter of Russian Embassy. This document was a result of Bouïdiï’s long-term examination of relations between the Osman government and European diplomats, especially the French ones, in the mid-18th century. According Bouïdiï, the Turkish diplomacy skillfully played its own game using the contradictions of powers and wasn’t at all their dummy as it was often represented in European literature.
